“Does the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’” Isaiah 45:9

Sometimes life makes us ask that exact question.

Things don’t go the way we expected. Plans change. Doors close. The path feels confusing. And somewhere in the middle of it all we quietly wonder, “God… what are You doing?”

Isaiah reminds us of something important. We are the clay, and God is the potter. He formed us. He shaped us. Our lives ultimately belong in His hands.

That truth can feel humbling. But it becomes incredibly comforting when you see the next part of the story.

Isaiah says something amazing: “The Lord in majesty will be for us.”

Today’s Solid Joys Devotional-

“A bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench.”

Isaiah 42:3

Some days your faith feels strong. Other days it feels like it’s barely hanging on.

Maybe you’re tired. Maybe life has been coming at you nonstop. Maybe you feel like that “bruised reed” Isaiah talks about, bent over, worn down, just trying to keep going.

What I love about this passage is how it describes the heart of Jesus. When he sees someone weak, he doesn’t snap them off and move on. When he sees someone whose faith is just a tiny spark, he doesn’t blow it out.

Jeremiah 32:40–41

“I will make with them an everlasting covenant… I will rejoice in doing them good.”

Some days on the road feel heavy. Long travel days. Missed sleep. Pressure. Moments where you wonder if things will actually work out the way you hope.

That’s why this promise is so powerful.

God doesn’t just decide to do good to His people. He actually rejoices in doing it. It brings Him joy. Think about that for a second. The Creator of everything isn’t reluctantly helping you along the way. He delights in it.

Sometimes we believe God will help us, but we secretly think He’s a little annoyed about it. Like we’re asking too much. Like we’re inconveniencing Him.

Matthew 5:8

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

Out here, temptation doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it’s just exhaustion. Sometimes it’s loneliness. Sometimes it’s a quiet craving for comfort that slowly pulls your heart in the wrong direction.

Today’s SJDD devo was a reminder that we’re not defenseless.

When Paul says to put sin to death by the Spirit, that’s not passive language. That’s active. It means we fight. And the weapon we fight with is the Word of God. Not vague positivity. Not willpower. Promises.

When fear starts whispering, “You’re on your own,” we answer with Isaiah 41:10.
