The Gain of Serving God

2 Chronicles 12:8

“They shall be servants to him, that they may know my service and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.”

Listening to the podcast today, I was reminded just how different serving God is from serving anything or anyone else.

We live in a world that tells us we’re only as good as what we give. That if we’re not meeting the needs of the people around us or hustling hard enough, we’re falling short. But serving God isn’t like that at all. He doesn’t need our service. He’s already full. He’s the source of everything we have.

Serving Him isn’t about filling up what’s lacking in Him. It’s about receiving from Him. It’s about the joy of being met by His strength, His kindness, His provision.

The story of Rehoboam is a sharp reminder. When he turned away from serving God, he found himself serving Shishak — and Shishak wasn’t a giver. He was a taker. Serving anyone or anything other than God will always drain us. It’ll leave us feeling depleted and spent. But serving God fills us. Because He’s always the one pouring into us.

That’s the kind of service I want to be about. Not working to fill a need in God, but leaning into His endless supply for my own.

Prayer:

God, thank You for reminding me that serving You is never a burden. It’s a gift. You’re not a taskmaster demanding more from me. You’re a Father who delights in giving more to me. Help me today to lean into Your goodness, not out of obligation, but out of the joy of knowing You and receiving all that You are. For every friend reading this today, remind them that their worth isn’t in what they can give, but in what You’ve already given.

Amen.
