How did you get into sound engineering?
I’m early in this, already Dante Level 1 certified, and doing sound hands on as much as I can. I’m not looking for the glossy success story. I want the real path. What actually mattered, what you screwed up early, and what you’d tell a younger guy trying to break in today without any shortcuts!

I started like most by playing in bands and picking brains when possible. Eventually I found a local production company who brought me onboard. I worked my ass off and never said no to what ever task that was asked of me, so my lack of knoledge was not a factor of my hiring, it was more my work ethic/professionalism/time and place for everything mindset that kept me there. I learned so much there and eventually was given more responsibilities and opportunites. There are no short cuts to experience, but you can gain more opportunites if your learning stays consistent and you never develop an ego. Also, one of the biggest factors in networking is to be reliably easy to work with.
